Tommy’s Picks:
Spectral Wound – Songs of Blood and Mire

The black metal stalwarts return with their long-awaited return to their 2021 album, A Diabolic Thirst. Pure christripping terror.

Wintersun – Time II

Jari’s computer finally has enough RAM and the crowdfunding managed to not be a money-laundering scheme. And with that is the long-awaited sequel to Time.

Sun Blood Stories – Shadow Loud
Lowkey yet passionate psych rock from Idaho. Guaranteed to conjure images of the desert.
Cori’s Picks:
Vegyn and Lea Sen – Turn Me Inside (Zero 7 Remix)
These two artist I just love so so much its really not funny. This single is such a beautiful combination of so many genres and Léa Sen’s voice is so beautiful (as alwaysss) on this particular track with the funky beats and the electronic notes in the background makes this such a awesome headphone experience. Wish I could listen to this song again for the first time.
Molina – When You Wake Up
ML Buch has a sick feature on this album and over all the whole album is amazing. It plays with beautiful bass undertones mixing in Molina’s very unique voice.
Jon Glacier – Duppy Gun
John Glacier is an artist that just keeps coming out with the best lyrics everrr with in this summer EP the hazy lo-fi beats are paired with a beautiful London rap nothin but luv for her. <3
Bella’s Picks:
Halo Bite – Winner’s Circle
hxc band halo bite’s newest ep!! such a dope project in the albany scene which often lacks queer artists! Lead singer J’s powerhouse vocals with the band’s sickening breakdowns will not leave you disappointed. check them out on tour!!
Hello Mary – Emita Ox

girl group hello mary’s newest album combines vulnerable lyrics with grungey sound that works seamlessly. to put it simply: veruca salt and wednesday’s love child.

Taka Nawashiro – Life Scape
calming yet incredibly well-produced album from jazz artist and musician taka nawashiro :) a record that encapsulates a peacefully perfect fall. makes me feel all cozy just thinking about this one!
Varun’s Picks:
MJ Lenderman – Manning Fireworks
In addition to moonlighting on guitar for the indie outfit Wednesday, North Carolina’s MJ Lenderman has established himself as one of alt-country’s most forward-thinking songwriters. On Manning Fireworks, he further refines his heartfelt lyricism and indie rock-influenced sound to reach new levels of artistic maturity.
Wishy – Triple Seven

Wishy might be one of the most versatile groups in indie music right now. Their debut record finds the Indianapolis up-and-comers alternating seamlessly between mellow indie pop and crunchy shoegaze, all tied together by their knack for blissful, serene songwriting.

Looking for Frogs – Demos v1.1
A fantastic set of dynamic, blissed-out tunes from Skidmore’s resident alt-rockers that perfectly captures their live sound.

Rhea’s Picks:

iTunes Artwork for 'Girl (by Coco & Clair Clair)'
Coco & Clair Clair – Girl
Guys, this album is so much fun. A lot of us know Coco & Clair Clair from their viral song “Pretty” — “If I die tonight, I’mma make it look pretty / Yeah I’m in your spot, yeah I’m in your city” — but their discography holds so much more! I’ve always said their genre is Cultured Bimbo Pop: seemingly ditsy and innocuous lyrics over playful synth beats contain an underlying intelligence and humor that might be lost on some. This album is no different. I was most taken by their cover of “Our House” which somehow makes so much sense over looped synths and a trap beat (hear me out, I was suspicious too!). This album is perfect for drinks with friends, driving to a job interview, an afternoon at the beach, signing important documents, etc.
Kim Gordon – The Collective
Kim Gordon, best known as a founding member of Sonic Youth, relentlessly defies the comforts of genre. While she may not be playing guitar with a violin bow or screwdriver like she did in the 80s, the fundamental experimental/experiential nature of her music remains. This new album, released first in March and now re-released with bonus tracks “Bangin’ On the Freeway” and “ECRP” is a dramatically singular work, her familiar california vocal-fry clashing perfectly with heavy bass and abrasive electronics — no wonder it was produced with Justin Raisin (who’s worked with Charli xcx, Angel Olsen, among others). The lyrics are distinctly hers, dry, sardonic, cutting cultural criticism about gender and consumerism, as exemplified in “I’m a Man” — “you got a degree (I’m a man) / And I’m just a fucking slob (I’m a man) / You got your Audi (I’m a man) / You got an Audi (I’m a man).”
Alright, sick – see you guys next week.
But…
Ok, I’m done.
Peace, love, and college radio,
Tommy
